The prime minister Philippe Couillard has appointed a committee of senior officials the mandate to negotiate an agreement with the medical specialists in order to avoid the penalties of the law 20.

The folder is removed from the hands of the minister of Health, Gaétan Barrette, according to a press release of the Fédération des médecins spécialistes du Québec (FMSQ).

The FMSQ adds that the prime minister has entrusted the mandate of the negotiations, a group composed of the chief negotiator for the government, Maurice Charlebois, the associate secretary at the Secretariat in the negotiation and labour relations and total compensation to the Board of treasury, Edith Lapointe, and the secretary-general and registrar of the outgoing executive Council, Roberto Iglesias.

Earlier Wednesday, the minister Barrette has suggested that physicians could be subject to penalties if their targets are not met under the act 20 by the end of the year.

Gaétan Barrette said he was, however, open to conclude an agreement to relax the terms of the agreement, as it has done recently with the Fédération des médecins omnipraticiens du Québec
