A year after the death of Claudio di Giambattista, known as “the king of the slums, of Parc-Extension, City of Montreal has its sights on a company that, according to some tenants, deserves in his turn to inherit this title little envious.

Also, a few months ago, the company Raamco International Properties Canadian Ltd, which owns several buildings in the area of the boulevard l’acadie, near the autoroute métropolitaine, in Villeray-St-Michel-Parc-Extension, has been ordered to pay 4500 $ to the tenant Aclin Jean due to a mouse problem and toiletries.

According to the tenants, rats run along the outside of the buildings on the boulevard l’acadie. A sewage pipe might also be broken.

André Trépanier of the action Committee of Park-Extension explains that the exasperation is shared in the face of vermin, the lack of repairs and the attitude of the owner.

In the decision of the housing authority the tenant Aclin Jean, we learn three things: either that the representative, who is accused of harassment, has been hired by the landlord to keep the tenants and this is only pushed by the municipal authorities that the landlord has done the required work. But finally, “it does not usually bother to notify the tenant of his visits to reproach him then not giving him access to housing.”

“Instead of evacuating the tenants, for the urgent ratting to be done, and for the extermination of mice and cockroaches, would it not be desirable and prudent to be done by the borough (at the owner’s expense) or, at least, that this is done under the supervision of the district?”, asks André Trépanier.

In response, the City of Montreal has no plans to evacuate urgently the tenants. “The emergency evacuation, it is the last resort. It is the department of public health, that we can make this recommendation, and at that time, we have the power to act,” says Mary Deros, acting mayor of the borough.

“I assure you that the City inspectors entered the property. At the same time, we check with our public works department, where the rats because this is not normal. Then, we will take action with the owner that he should do to come exterminateurs.”

In 20 years, there were 27 interventions on our part, ” said Ms. Deros. If timelines are not met, there will be fines.
