MONTREAL – students in education will look like Monday morning in Montreal, in front of the office of the minister of Finance, Carlos J. Leitão, in order to claim financial compensation for internships.
The teachers-in-training will gather at 10 a.m., in front of the ministry building, located on the rue Saint-Antoine ouest. They indicated that they would be “sitting behind a twenty desks” to “receive a presentation on the reality of the teachers-in-training”, one can read in a press release from the Campaign of claims and actions inter-university for education students in training (CHALK).
The future teachers had already gathered last Monday for a symbolic action in front of the office of the minister of higher education, Hélène David. Recall that they are claiming financial compensation weekly during their last internship, in order to combat the financial insecurity of the trainees.
According to the CHALK, a scholarship from lows of $ 576 per week, paid by the financial Assistance for education, would be the way to fight against this financial insecurity of teachers-in-training.
Research conducted by the student Union in Quebec, indicate the measure would cost $ 20.3 million per year to the government, “that is, less than 0.1% of the budget in education in Quebec”.
