The doctors, specialists wish that the minimum age to be able to consume cannabis is at least 21 years old when this drug will be legalized in 2018.

The Fédération des médecins spécialistes du Québec (FMSQ) who completed a survey at the house in June indicates that 71% of its members are against the provision in the draft federal law which will allow young people of 18 years and older to purchase and consume marijuana.

The FMSQ will, therefore, require the provincial government to impose a more restrictive. It will present its position to the consultations on the cannabis that will be held on Thursday and Friday, at the Palais des congrès in Montreal.

The doctors are also asking that a fund of at least $ 100 million to be created from revenues of the sales taxes to invest in prevention. They also want that the THC content of the marijuana are set by regulation and monitored closely.

The legalization of cannabis is a serious concern for the FMSQ. According to a survey conducted internally in June, 63% are in favour of medical cannabis, but 58% are against cannabis recreational.

A strong majority, 84%, believe that legalization could become a public health problem. In addition, they prohibit that pharmacists be allowed to sell marijuana and instead believe that a State should have the monopoly.

The public consultations on the structuring of the cannabis took place in seven cities in Quebec. After Montreal, they will stop in Gatineau on September 12.

The liberal minister Lucie Charlebois has committed to submit a draft law on the supervision of the cannabis at the beginning of the fall.
