Two nurses of Saint-Jérôme of haitian origin have recently found a message of threats of a racist nature on the windshield of their car, whose tires had been punctured, so that they finished their shift.

“Returns [sic] in your country, I do not want to see you [sic] to’youville, you’ve stolen [sic] our job, 1st warning, next time I’ll go with you, I’ll do [sic] understand ac [sic] is going to be late for you… “, said the paper glued on the two vehicles.

A hate message was pasted on the windshield of the car by two nurses of haitian descent who work at the accommodation Centre Youville in Saint-Jérôme.

Jasmine Gervais and Viviane Saint-Louis are in shock since they have discovered this message, on the night of January 17, in the parking lot of the shelter Youville, where they work, respectively, from four and eight years.

“It was very afraid, tells the story of Jasmine Gervais. Me, I have three children, so I was afraid that the person who did it follow me all the way home and hurt my family. “

Their vehicle’s tires were also slashed.

The police of Saint-Jérôme was immediately called on site. A folder has been opened, but the women chose not to file a complaint, preferring to meet first their head of unit.

    Unacceptable

Cameras have since been installed in the parking lot of the hosting centre and security agents are now available to escort employees to their vehicle at night.

An internal investigation has been opened to the CISSS of the Laurentians. The author of these heinous acts has still not been identified, indicates Thai Dubé, information officer.

“The victims have been met by their manager to see what their needs were in terms of support,” she said. We have an employee assistance program to which they were referred. “

“We deplore this event, that we judge unacceptable,” she adds. Here, there is zero tolerance for anything that is discrimination and bullying. “

    Stop working

Despite the security measures deployed, Jasmine Gervais has stopped working a few days after the incident.

“I only slept over because I was too concerned about,” says the 47 year old female. I had a constant migraine. I went to see my doctor and he told me that I needed to rest. I should be back next week. “

In Quebec in the past 20 years, Ms. Gervais said that this is the first time that she is a victim of such an act of racism.

“We often hear that there is racism in St-Jérôme, because there are not many immigrants here,” she said. But for me, I’ve never had problems with it, in any case, nothing so serious. “
