GATINEAU | The staff and patients of the hospital in Hull are disgusted by the infestation of cockroaches which has raged in the kitchens of the health facility for more than a month.

“Some employees have received everything on their shoulder while they worked,” says the president of the union of health workers of Gatineau, Jenna McMillan.

The situation forces even the employees of the kitchen of the hospital to pick up cockroaches and put them in a pot in order to return them to their immediate superior.

The presence of these cockroaches has been reported to the management of the Centre intégré de santé de l’outaouais at the beginning of the month of February, but some employees have seen since last fall, according to Ms. McMillan.

“Employees are afraid to report to the house. They are also concerned by the quality of the service they provide in the kitchen, ” says Ms McMillan.

    Exterminator

The direction of the CISSS de l’outaouais ensures that the infestation is finished since Thursday night, following a grand household. An exterminator has been called in order to proceed with a treatment-shock pest control. Then, the area of the kitchens on the ground floor of the hospital in Hull has been thoroughly cleaned.

The managers confirm to be divested of some of the equipment and furniture to be certain to eradicate the problem.

“The problem is solved. The treatments have borne fruit “, said the deputy director of the Directorate of technical services and logistics, Julie Whissell

    Disgust

The hospitals of the Outaouais, which are already the subject of bad reviews from the users, did not need the new tile. Patients met at the exit of the establishment were not very reassured when we showed them the pictures of the insects taken on the inside.

According to the union, this episode of cockroach puts into perspective the assumption that it is cut anywhere in the network, even in the maintenance of the hospital.

“In a hospital where they care for the sick, it is inconceivable that there should be these bugs. It should be clean, ” says Robert McMillan.

The hospital of the Hull is not the first health institution to be plagued with insect infestations. Of beetles and other insects are found inside of the operating block of the hôpital Charles-Le Moyne Greenfield Park last fall.
