QUEBEC – Close to 145 college students will gather at the Parliament at Quebec, from 8 to 12 January, on the occasion of the 26th legislature of the student Forum.

It is the vice-president of the national Assembly François Ouimet, who will chair this simulation designed to introduce young people to the parliamentary work.

“This is an important appointment that allows young people to better understand our parliamentary system and to discuss topics that are directly relevant to them. I am always impressed by the passion and energy that reside during these five days of parliamentary life,” said Mr. Ouimet, in a press release.

From 26 colleges and cegeps across Quebec, the participants will take the roles of member of parliament, minister, president, a journalist or press officer.

During this simulation, they will debate on the three bills that they have previously written: a draft law on the supervision of sex work; another on the liberalization of the distribution of alcohol in Quebec, and finally, a draft law on learning through community involvement.

For the past 26 years, the student Forum has helped more than 3,000 young people to improve their knowledge of the parliamentary system and of the workings of democracy in québec, but also to acquire skills in communication and increase their interest in civic life.
