Exit schedules, patterns and constraints: several of the young artists go through Youtube to launch or advance their career. True representatives of this connected generation, Gab Joncas, Alice Morel-Michaud and Miro Belzil will provide wise counsel during the festival OhMyFest!.
Gab Joncas was about five years old when he put his hand on his parents ‘ camera. As a child, he liked to recreate his scenes from films favourite with his friends. “In the 6th grade, I discovered YouTube and that changed everything. Finally, I could show my videos to people other than my parents!”, says the one who has recently been host to Vrak.tv and Music More.
These are his adventures online, which were eventually launch her career, her videos, capturing the attention of producers and enabling him to glean several professional contracts. It is a little of what also happened to Miro Belzil, actor and musician within the group Wheat. “YouTube, this is not a sideline to my career, this is my only platform. If I stop, I have no visibility otherwise, it would be like stopping my career to the full”, he explains.
Avid consumer of YouTube videos, Alice Morel-Michaud did not need this platform to launch his career. The one that we saw in Subito Texto and the blue Hour was rather driven by a desire for change. “I am called by the names of my characters in the street, my young fans don’t know who I am and it does not interest really, admits with a laugh the actress of 18 years. With my YouTube channel, I can go and get a new audience outside of the one who follows me for my youth series. In addition, I don’t need to pretend to be 14 years old!”
The three young artists have quickly understood the main strength of YouTube : the unique and incomparable to build a real community. “It always makes me weird when I’m back at my parents for the weekend, and that my father is watching tv,” says Miro Belzil. One really feels the difference between a host of tv makeup, which stands at 4 metres from the camera, and a guy who is filmed in his bedroom, you familiar. This one gives you the impression to be his friend.”
“When I was young, the stars of the tv seemed to be supermen, people thousands of miles away from me. The young man who looks at me by hand, he says that I am like him, that I decided one morning to film me and he can do the same,” adds Gab Joncas.
Before grabbing his webcam, it is better, however, take a moment to really think about the type of content that one wishes to produce. “There are so many people on YouTube, you can’t do anything! If you are looking for just the fame, you’ll quickly becoming tired. The best way to be original, it is to produce content that you like and that you like it,” warns Alice Morel-Michaud.
The panel Career & Youtube will take place on 23 July at 10am, at the Monument-National.
