The massive operation targeting driving under the influence, held between 30 November and 3 January in the four corners of the province led to over 1000 arrests on the territory of québec, on Friday announced the authorities.

According to the final balance sheet of the annual operating called Vaccine, a total of 1055 drivers have been pinned on Québec roads for driving with ability impaired by alcohol, an average of 15 per day.

In total, the police have conducted 2871 controls and road blocks to attempt to stop as much as possible this scourge of alcohol and drugs and driving.

The police estimate the number of motorists controlled to approximately 50 000 in the last two months that lasted the operation.

“Fifteen more young people than last year have been intercepted and have received a finding for non-compliance of the condition of zero alcohol. It is, therefore, more than 60 motorists under the age of 22 who have lost their license for 90 days, received four demerit points and a fine for driving their vehicle after having consumed alcoholic beverages,” said the Sûreté du Québec in a press release.

The end of this operation does not mean the end of road checks, to have prevented the authorities. “The police of all police services in Québec will continue their daily efforts to address alcohol and drug-impaired driving,” added the police.
