OTTAWA – Alain Rayes is the only mp from Quebec and the only francophone, to be included within the executive team of the conservative Party in Ottawa, whose appointments were announced on Thursday.
Member of parliament for Richmond-Arthabaska, Alain Rayes is also the québec lieutenant of the new leader, conservative Andrew Scheer, which allows him to access the bodyguards of the latter.
Alain Rayes could have an increased role within the conservative team, said Mr. Scheer on Thursday. “This is not only on the ground that Mr. Rayes will help our caucus. Mr. Rayes is going to have a place in our shadow cabinet. It will help me a lot on issues that are not only specific to Quebec,” he explained.
“It is important to know that Mr. Rayes is going to have a very important role in the development of policies and to manage our team in the Room”, he continued.
Alain Rayes will be the only member of the management team of conservatives to be fluent in French, his colleagues named Thursday as all unilingual anglophones.
“I have confidence in the ability of the members of my team to improve their French, as I still do myself,” said the chief curator.
The other appointments are those of Lisa Raitt, who became deputy leader of the official opposition.
Candice Bergen is, for its part, appointed leader of the official opposition, Mark Strahl, becomes chief whip and Chris Warkentin took the responsibility of deputy leader.
