Ottawa: freezing rain on Sunday

News 26 March, 2017

Caution will be required on roads, sidewalks and parking lots on Sunday as freezing rain is expected over the Greater Federal Capital Region.

According to Environment Canada, which issued a warning on Saturday, the precipitation is expected to begin Sunday afternoon and persist for a good part of the evening.

Freezing rain is expected to change to rain in most areas of eastern Ontario on Sunday night.

However, in areas near the Ottawa Valley, temperatures will likely remain below freezing, warns the federal agency. Thus, the freezing rain could persist until the night of Sunday to Monday.

Two to ten millimeters of ice may be expected, depending on the region.

Poor weather could lead to transportation delays.
