A group of aviation enthusiasts has given itself the mission to restore an aircraft that served during the Second world War and was abandoned for 25 years at the Saint-Hubert airport.

The DC3 had been left abandoned for years on the edge of the runways of the airport of Saint-Hubert. This is the first time in nearly 25 years that you enter inside of a hangar.

The plane was also used during the famous Normandy landings. Then, he served in a civilian career, in the colours of Trans-Canada Airlines, the forerunner of Air Canada.

He rotted there before, that this group of aviation enthusiasts launches in its restoration. “It is estimated, in fact, almost, between five to seven years, eight years for the renovation and operation of the device. It’s not going to fly again,” explains Benoît de Mulder, president of Avialogs.

Surprisingly, when one enters inside the cabin, you realize that several original features have been preserved, of the elements of 1944, which have not been vandalized. What is the most damaged, in fact, it is the cockpit, at the front.

“All the instruments are missing. They have been uprooted, they have been stolen. So, there, it will be necessary to redo it to the full,” adds Mr. de Mulder.

It will thus take a lot of time and work to restore this plane to its letters of nobility.
