RIVIÈRE-DU-LOUP | A driver of Rivière-du-Loup was injured in the head and his vehicle was declared a total loss after a piece of ice that was seen to detach itself from the roof of a truck has smashed through his windshield last week on highway 185 in the Bas-Saint-Laurent.

Denise Beaulieu believes that the consequences could have been worse if she had lost control of his vehicle. “Everything that was important for me was to hold my steering wheel”, she says. The impact caused heavy damage to his car and she was wounded on the top of the head, which required stitches.

Following this event, she wants to raise the awareness of the drivers of vehicles and especially heavy weight that not déglacent or déneigent not their roofs. “Since it happened, several people have told me that it had already happened they also. It happens too often. I was blessed, because I could hit someone or lose knowledge,” she adds.

She wishes that there was better supervision on the part of the authorities concerned to avoid heavy-duty vehicles or vehicles moving on the roads with layers of ice on their roofs and causing accidents such as his, which occurred on 13 February at the height of Saint-Antonin.

“This is really dangerous, we see regularly the patties from in the air,” she says.

Every driver has the obligation to remove snow and deglaze the vehicle and can not let any material come off the vehicle he is driving. Truck drivers can remove snow from their roofs with mechanical systems, shovels roof, stations of snow removal or restraint equipment.
