The potholes always seem more numerous in Montreal, and Philippe Sabourin, a spokesperson for the City, confirms this: 45 % of city streets are in poor or very poor condition.
Since 1 January, with 14 automated machines, more than 45,000 potholes have been filled.
“This is a better performance than last year, when 35 000 potholes were filled on the same date. In the best conditions, it can seal 3000 per day”, explains Philippe Sabourin.
“The idea is that you won’t have to pothole if your surface is sealed. The problem of the pothole, it is a water infiltration in the soil, which swells with the gel and deflates with the thaw. We will get there in the medium term,” says Philippe Sabourin.
Montreal plans to continue the refurbishment of many streets and arteries, and has the objective of remaking the highway on 415 km in 2018. In 2017, the 270 km of streets had been demolished and rebuilt, on a network of more than 4000 km.
The City of Montreal invites the citizens to report potholes that are on their way, which allows to orientate the work of the teams and the automated machines of the City.
Thanks to the application Montreal-Services to citizens, it is enough to take a photo of a pothole. It will be geo-located by the City and repaired. The citizen will in addition receive an email advising them that the repair has taken place.
