Half of the owners of a house at the risk of being faced with a problem of pyrrhotite in the Mauricie region have still not been to analyze their foundation, at the risk of losing valuable grants to conduct work.

In the Mauricie, to be sold, the houses built between 1996 and 2008 must have a certificate proving that they are free of pyrrhotite, since they have one chance in two of having it in their foundation

Perform a test of pyrrhotite costs between 1200 $ and 1500 $ and allows you to have access to grants to repair her house. A test confirming the presence of pyrrhotite can also start a lawsuit by consulting an attorney.

Currently, a program to help victims of pyrrhotite allows to obtain a grant of up to $ 70,000 to redo the foundation of a house contaminated. Quebec, however, may decide to terminate its program.

“Programs, it has a beginning and an end. The program of assistance to victims of pyrrhotite will one day come to an end and on this day, I hope we will be able to help a maximum of people,” stressed the president of the Coalition to help victims of pyrrhotite, Alain Gélinas.
