The public health authorities in Quebec allege that hundreds of Quebecers were sick because they have eaten food containing raspberries from China.

According to estimates by the ministry of Health and social Services, there has been at least 724 patients who were the subject of an investigation in relation to outbreaks of norovirus, a group of viruses associated with gastroenteritis and that, in addition to spread quickly and are very contagious.

“The sick people (users, customers, and employees) had consumed products – desserts, coulis, yogurt, velvety – prepared from frozen raspberries raw from China”, says one.

The people contaminated symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, muscle aches, fatigue, fever, chills, and headache, and this, within 24 to 48 hours following consumption.

In its newsletter, “Flash Lookout” of January last, the ministry says that “the number of 724 is under-estimated, as it does not take into account all the cases associated with the suspected source”.

“The magnitude of the underestimation is unknown”, assure-t-on.

Last summer, several cases of norovirus associated with the consumption of cakes mousse with raspberries had been reported, according to the canadian food inspection agency (CFIA). The recall was then expanded in August to several similar products.

In total, 11 reminders of 17 batches of products were three importers here who bought from the same chinese supplier, according to the quebec authorities, indicating that this provider was the subject of a “notice of supervision” of the federal government.
