The Crown will not appeal the judgment, which led to the acquittal of the son of the ex-godfather Vito Rizzuto to gangsterism.

“We have made a careful scrutiny of the judgment, and we came to the conclusion that there were no grounds for appeal,” said prosecutor Matthew Ferguson, this Thursday at the palais de justice of Montreal.

It is, therefore, to say that Leonardo Rizzuto, a lawyer for 48-year-old no longer has to worry about a possible trial for gangsterism. He had been arrested and charged as part of operation anti-mafia, but he was shot because the police had illegally listened to without his knowledge, in a lawyers office.

In a decision by a club, the court ruled that “State agents” had focused their investigation to the detriment of the professional secrecy binding upon the lawyers and their clients. The implementation of this means of investigation had been “misbehaving, or even negligent,” according to the judge Eric Downs.

But Rizzuto has not finished with justice, since he is still accused of possession of cocaine and two pistols, which were allegedly found at his home during a search.

And in this case, the Crown is ready to go to the end of the procedures.

“It is certain that we will carry out [this folder], has assured Me Ferguson. It is a search warrant that is valid and viable. For us, we can go forward. “

This folder will return to court next month to set a trial date.
