The Newspaper reported Thursday that students deemed unmanageable were expelled from school and educated at home against the wishes of the parents. The phenomenon is increasing according to the Coalition of parents of students with special needs.

In an interview with the Newspaper, The minister Proulx insisted on the fact that it is of “exceptional” situations. Since the beginning of the year, a dozen students found themselves in this situation at the commission scolaire de la Capitale, in Quebec city.

Without wanting to comment on the specific case reported by The Newspaper, Mr. Proulx stated that “the school should do everything possible to deliver educational services”. In some cases, it is necessary to consider means other than the regular classroom, such as special classes, he said, while refusing to throw the blame on the establishment.

“Resources in schools, there are, he added. Is it that in some circles there should be more? Of course. Is it that in some cases it would be necessary that the school boards do what is necessary to have more special classes? Maybe”, he gave up.

For his part, the mp for the Coalition avenir Québec, Jean-François Roberge, there was simply not. “This is very shocking. It didn’t make sense to abandon young people and families like that. A network that declares itself unfit to care for the young, this is totally unacceptable,” he started.

The school board should not expel students for the school to the house against the will of the parents, and regardless of the severity of behaviors that are alleged against the student.

“There is no excuse. School boards must have a range of resources to meet a range of needs. Imagine the same thing with the health care network. It is as if one said : you’re too sick, you will tend not. It is clear that it has no meaning,” said Mr. Roberge.

The Parti québécois, the member Alexandre Cloutier also denounces the situation. “This is not returning the students home, which one corrects anything. This is the proof that there is a chronic lack of resources in the network,” says one who pleads rather for a flooring services in each institution.
