If several of the centenarians attribute their longevity to a trick or a secret of any kind, such as a healthy life, away from tobacco and alcohol, this is not the case of Gisèle Brilliant, which celebrated its 101 years in may.
“No, sir, I smoked up to 70 years, and still today, I take my glass of red every day. There is no secret. It is like that, that’s all ! “
Mrs. Bright was born in 1916 in Rimouski. She was the third of a family of eight children, five girls and three boys, whose father was head of station.
She married at 21 years with a municipal employee in Montreal met while he was on vacation in Rimouski. On his arrival in the big city, she remembers having been impressed by the amount of stores and by the trams.
“Everything was going so fast in Montreal. There was nothing of it to Rimouski, ” she said.
Mrs. Bright had seven children and has never worked, but this is not for lack of trying. At the age of 19, she had requested the work to an uncle who owned several companies.
“Unfortunately, it didn’t work. He replied that it was unnecessary since I would get married before long. It was like that at the time “, she says.
