The direction of the CIUSSS of the Mauricie and Centre-du-Quebec is so concerned about the costs related to the explosion of sick leave among its employees, she asked the doctors to reconsider return-to-work.
On the 16th of February last, the doctors in the Centre of the integrated university health and social services of Mauricie and Centre-du-Québec have received a letter from their bosses, highlighting the increase in “substantial absence salary insurance” cost very dear.
The letter signed by the president of the CIUSSS, Martin Beaumont, and the president of the Council of physicians, dentists and pharmacists (CPDP), Jocelyn Gervais, indicates that the invoice related to such absences has “exploded” in recent years and is likely to reach$ 36 Million this year.
The management claims that there is “a potential impact on the care provided” to the public “because of the difficulty to replace this workforce absent”.
“As partners in the achievement of the mission of the CIUSSS MCQ, we will challenge you to raise awareness of the impacts to the human and financial situation of the salary insurance may have on our service offer to the population,” says the missive, stating that the directorate has developed an action plan for presence at work.
Thus, the patrons invite their physicians to consult the Guide to the employer concerning the treatment of periods of absence due to disability. “It is a tool that might help you in the daily management of your records,” says the document, stating that the CIUSSS does not, however, “doubting” their “clinical judgment”.
The letter ends by stating that “the situation of the salary insurance in the establishment is made at this point troubling in that it requires the attention and collaboration of all people concerned”.
Bullying
Employees who are committed mainly on the social networks find it a disgrace that the leadership of the CIUSSS their request to the doctors to review their criteria for work stoppage for patients who work in the health care network.
They consider this letter as bullying. “It was already a difficult task, it is exhausted from the system. Several nurses are still working, but are out of breath and bosses dare to send this kind of message to physicians,” said, upset it, a worker of the health network of la Mauricie.
“My employer requests to our family doctors, to avoid putting off work for burn-out and because it’s expensive and that it creates a shortage … it is not only of slavery, but his fault if the employees fall”, also claimed a nurse of this place.
Defence
The director of human resources of the organization, Louis Brunelle, ensures that it is simply a letter of awareness addressed to their partners and doctors, not a directive.
“It is sure that we highlight the fact that it is very expensive and that there are a lot of people absence. It is difficult,” he said, assuring that the goal was not to interfere in the work of doctors.
He said, rather wanting to work with physicians to facilitate return to the progressive and “reduce the pressure” on resources. “We’ll see what we can do to reassure people”.
