While most Quebeckers took advantage Tuesday of a summer day with temperatures approaching 30 degrees Celsius, in some areas of the north of the province received snow in the morning.

On the page Facebook of VAT New, Ludovic Paquette sent a video in which the melting snow falls from the sky.

The resident of James Bay, filmed the weather while riding in his pickup truck on a small road to 80 km from the village of Wemindji. We can see some flakes on the armrest of his seat.

“This morning, 2 degrees Celsius, the rain changed to slush,” he wrote.

“The weather station regional has indeed reported a mixture of rain and snow melting,” said Amélie Bertrand (Environment Canada). Early Tuesday morning, the mercury was just 2 degrees above the freezing point.

Although this kind of event is not very frequent at this time of the year, it is not, however, a record, said the meteorologist.

“In 1978, we had frost on the ground in full July”, she said, adding that accumulations of 2 cm of snow had been observed in James Bay in July 2001.

“As cold air moves in tonight (Tuesday) on the Labrador side of the people of Fermont and Schefferville may also receive precipitation in the form of rain, possibly mixed with some snowflakes,” said Ms. Bertrand. The minimum this night will again be 2 degrees.
