The case of a young Italian woman suffering from a rare and mysterious disease which makes him sweat blood has been studied by the Journal of the canadian medical Association.

The Italian 21-year-old explained to his doctors that for the past three years, she had periodically bleeding from the face and the palms of the hands, no cuts or skin lesions.

During his hospitalization, the doctors observed “the flow of the liquid is stained with blood from his face,” according to an article published on the 23rd of October in the Journal of the canadian medical Association. She is the victim of hémathidrose, a rare condition known as the “sweat of blood”.

These bleeding episodes usually lasted between 1 and 5 minutes and were more intense when she lived episodes of stress.

According to Dr. Jacalyn Duffin, historian and medical hematologist at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, this disease has been reported in the last few centuries, although some doctors have expressed doubts as to its existence, according to its publication in the Journal of the canadian medical Association that accompanied the Italian researchers on the case of the victim.

However, after reviewing the recent cases of hémathidrose – 28 cases over the past 13 years – Dr. Duffin has concluded that the disease actually exists.

“Credible, but not frequent, sightings persist in the medical literature,” she noted in her research.

However, nobody knows what causes the disease. Some researchers have hypothesized that increased pressure in the blood vessels led to the passage of blood cells through the channels of the sweat glands. Others speculate that the condition may be the result of a reaction of the body, which usually happens when people experience a sudden fear or stress.

This response triggers the release of certain hormones that make a person more alert. But in rare cases, it may also lead to the rupture of small blood vessels, resulting in bleeding, according to Healthline.

In some cases, the condition is related to blood-clotting problems, or high blood pressure. In the case of the young patient Italian, it does not seem to be a single trigger of bleeding.

These occurred while she was sleeping, she was doing the exercise, or that she was stressed.

She said that she had become socially isolated following his state of health and that she presented symptoms of depression and panic disorder.

    Sweat coloured?

The tests also showed that it was definitely blood on the face, and not “sweat ” colourful”, which can occur in certain conditions.

An analysis of his skin under the microscope showed a dermal tissue of normal, according to the report. The woman has been treated with medication for high blood pressure, which has already been used to treat hémathidrose.

After the treatment, she experienced a “marked reduction” of the bleeding, even if it has not completely stopped, according to the report. It has also received antidepressants.
