The Hospital emergency department, Pierre-Le Gardeur in Terrebonne overflows while the occupancy rate rose to almost 200 % on Tuesday.

At mid-day, this rate had stabilised at 170 % as a result of beds freed in the morning. The traffic in the afternoon is not likely to improve the situation.

If the flu has taken the emergency of the Quebec occupied, several other factors help to explain this high occupancy rate.

The hôpital Pierre-Le Gardeur has 380 beds, and several of these may not be released, because the patients are waiting for a transfer, especially in an accommodation centre.

“At a time when we are talking, there is a thirty second-hand that efforts are being made to find them the best environment of care that is no longer the hospital. A middle-of-care rehabilitation or recovery,” said Philippe Éthier, deputy director of professional services of the integrated Centre of health and social services of Lanaudière.

Several of the patients interviewed were elderly people who had to seek care for falls, or respiratory diseases.
