The Alouettes opt for a defensive lineman
With his first pick as general manager of the Alouettes, Kavis Reed chose defensive lineman Fabion Foote in the CFL draft, which took place Sunday night.
Foote measures 6’0 and weighs 276 pounds. It was the 12 th drafted hope. He played his university football with the Marauders of McMaster University. The Alouettes want to use two Canadian tackles next season, so Foote’s selection is not surprising.
Seventh in the auction, the BC Lions picked up the tackle Junior Luke of the Carabins of the University of Montreal. Luke became the 24 th player in history to be drafted Carabins.
Another defensive lineman, Faith Ekakitie of Iowa University, was the first player selected by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Evolving at the University of Iowa, Ekakitie was the fifth best hope available according to the CFL recruiting center.
The six-foot-one-inch and 304-pound colossus managed 37 tackles last season.
In second place, the Saskatchewan Roughriders opted for UCLA Cameron Judge’s linebacker.
The BC Lions then selected the recipient of McMaster University Daniel Vandervoort.
The second round was more fruitful for Quebec’s hopes. Jean-Simon Roy (14th place, Eskimos of Edmonton), offensive lineman of the Redmen of McGill University Qadr Spooner (15th, Blue Bombers) and The Sherbrooke University’s Vert & Or backer Anthony Gosselin (18th, Ottawa Red and Black) found a taker.
