The body of a man discovered in the river Yamaska, Saint-Damase

    SAINT-DAMASE | The body of a man was removed from the waters of the Yamaska river, Saint-Damase, Montérégie, Saturday.

    The operation was carried out around midday by officers of the Sûreté du Québec onboard a boat.

    According to the media relations unit of the SQ, the body has been identified by the authorities, but the person’s name is not made public out of respect for the family.

    On Friday, the SQ had launched a search to find a man in Saint-Damase been missing since Wednesday. Saturday, it was not possible to confirm whether the body recovered from the water in the Yamaska river was that of the missing person.

    The cause of death of the man found in the river Saturday afternoon had not yet been determined at the end of the afternoon. The coroner’s office, as well as the Sûreté du Québec are investigating the death.
