The draft law of the minister Sébastien Proulx provides a total reduction in the tax account school of approximately$ 670 million across the province. For public funds, there is a decrease of nearly one-quarter of revenues, which amounted annually to$2.2 billion.
In the school year of September 2018, Quebecers pay the lowest tax rates among the school boards in the region. In addition, each property owner will receive a basic exemption on the first$ 25,000 of the value of their home.
In Montreal, however, owners will only get the basic exemption, since the school tax rate are already regionalized.
The measure will benefit mainly the nine English school boards, since the vast majority of these have the highest school tax rate in their region.

With its reform of the school tax, Quebec has put an end to the possibility for property owners without children to decide whether they wish to pay their school taxes French or English of their region.
