OTTAWA | The federal minister of Finance Bill Morneau is about to drop the budget 2018 in the House of commons, Tuesday.

Mr. Morneau has revealed the date of the filing of its third economic action plan on February 13, in response to a question planted by the liberal mp Mona Fortier.

“We rely on our solid plan by making new investments in our people and communities, and ensuring that everyone, regardless of gender, will have equal opportunity to succeed”, he declared in the House of commons.

The latter indicated that one of the budget priorities will be investments in training and in leading-edge research, “to ensure that Canadians are ready for the economy of the future, which will allow the country to innovate and maintain its competitive advantage”.

He also assured that he will be “responsible tax”, without specifying whether he would try to get closer to a balanced budget after two years largely in deficit.

In its latest economic update, the federal government projected a deficit of 18.4 billion $ for the year 2017-2018, after acknowledging a shortfall of 17.8 billion $ in the previous year.

“Our plan is working, but we still have work to do,” he said, recalling that the unemployment rate in the country (with 5.9 %) is historically low.
