The Group Garneau offers a new service to bereaved people, who can deliver meals to the house after the loss of a loved one.
  
The meal program Sympathy, and consolation will become a part of the services offered by the Group Garneau, installed on the South Shore of Quebec city. This service will also be offered as a gift, in the same way that flowers and donations of money.

“This will be offered to families, but also in the leaflets. The people who come and offer their sympathies, instead of making donations to a foundation, will be able to choose Sympathy and comfort,” says Valérie Garneau, director, Group finance Garneau thanatologues.

It’s been ten years that the idea mijotait in the head of Ms. Garneau. “It exists on the side of the United States,” she said.

“After the funeral, a lot of people, especially spouses, were telling me that they were not made to eat. I told myself that I had to find a way,” continues Ms. Garneau.
She adds that several elders, following the loss of a loved one, may suffer from malnutrition.

The program will be offered in collaboration with Meal Desjardins, an organization that prepares and delivers meals on wheels to persons in loss of autonomy.

“I hope that the idea will be small across the province of Quebec,” says Ms. Garneau.
