The group Geloso, the quebec-based company who had created the drink FCKDUP to compete with the Four Loko in Quebec, asked the government to ban the sale of this drink is sweet and strongly alcoholic in the province.

The group Geloso has already withdrawn his drink FCKDUP of the market following the death of the young Athena Gervais, found lifeless in a stream of Laval, last Thursday. It would, over the lunch hour, consumed at least one drink FCKDUP, 11.9 % alcohol.
In a letter sent to the minister of the Québec public Health, Lucie Charlebois, the minister of public Safety, Martin Coiteux, Aldo Geloso request to ban the Four Loko, and request the establishment of a working table on these alcoholic drinks sweet.
“Despite our initial reluctance, we had decided to go ahead with the introduction of our brand FCKDUP. With the benefit of hindsight we believe that it was a mistake to enter in this category to compete with the Four Loko. The Four Loko should not even exist”, argued Aldo Geloso in his letter.
The Four Loko was removed from shelves last December because it contained ethyl alcohol rather than the alcohol produced from the fermentation of the malt.
The sale of Four Loko is also suspended “for an indefinite period” following the death of the young Athena Gervais.
Tin cans, re-sealable
The co-chair and general director of Groupe Geloso would like to make it mandatory to the concept of the resealable can for any format of 500 ml and for alcoholic beverages ranging between 10.5% and 11.9%.
It would have the effect of moderate alcohol consumption.
“We had to work with levels of government to approve a new on the québec market : the can is reclosable,” he continued. This concept has elsewhere been approved by the authorities.
