OTTAWA | The security costs of the G8 and the G20, held in June 2010 in Ontario, had done much talking at the time, the final invoice is being raised to 510 million $, according to the report of the auditor general.

Eight years later, Canada was preparing to host the G7, which will take place in early June at the Manoir Richelieu, in La Malbaie, in Charlevoix.

The place is obviously much easier to protect than the centre of the city of Toronto.

However, according to sources who have requested anonymity, the security costs are also expected to exceed the half-billion dollars.

This figure did not surprise the member of parliament for the corner. “It must be understood that, when events of this magnitude, there are costs related to it,” says the member of parliament for Beauport-Côte-de-Beaupré-Île d’orléans-Charlevoix, Sylvie Boucher.

If the royal Canadian mounted police (RCMP) is responsible for the operation, it will be supported by national Defence, the Sûreté du Québec and the Québec police. Even the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) has been called in assistance.

Always according to our sources, more than 5,000 members of the security forces will be at work.

Accommodation, meals, and overtime for police officers and gendarmes will inflate the invoice, so we are told.

“It is true that a summit like the g-7 is a top very, very awesome level of security,” says the analyst in attack Eric Buchlin.

A closing of $ 3.8 million has already been partially installed around the Manoir Richelieu. The airspace will be highly controlled. Even the maritime traffic on the river will have to be modified.

At least two sites must also be secure: Quebec, where it will be located in the media centre, and Bagotville, where will land the heads of State and government, including us president Donald Trump.

“There are a lot of things. It definitely encompasses a lot, a lot of services, a lot of people, a lot of time. Therefore, it does not surprise me, this cost,” admits Eric Buchlin.

A source on the ground says that efforts are underway to find ways to make savings.

The office of the federal minister of public Safety, Ralph Goodale, stated that the final bill for security at the G7 is not yet known, but it will be proportional to that of the other peaks of the genre.
