    OTTAWA | apart from a few million to the pre-customs clearance centre in Quebec city and the study of the project of high-frequency train of VIA Rail, it will have to be patient before knowing what major transport projects structuring will be supported by Ottawa.

    Indeed, very few projects are identified in the budget 2018 filed Tuesday by the minister of Finance, Bill Morneau.

    Unlike previous years, the budget 2018 contains only a thin section on the infrastructure. Essentially, the billions of dollars that have already been announced are still at the rendezvous.

    In the budgets in 2016 and 2017, the federal government had presented a plan of infrastructure for a total of 180 G$ over 12 years. The value of the global envelope of the infrastructure plan remains unchanged.

    Lack of projects approved and started, millions of dollars in projected investments in the last year and this year had to be deferred to the years in future.

    Everything should become clearer with the conclusion, probably in the course of the next few weeks, of bilateral agreements between Ottawa and the provinces.

    $ 236 Million for the pre-clearance

    The Trudeau government, however, has reserved a budget of a little more than$ 236 Million for the Administration canadian air transport security authority (CATSA).

    “This funding will also allow CATSA to add new paths for the preclearance of passengers to the United States at the Airport Billy Bishop Toronto city and the international Airport Jean-Lesage de Québec “, one can read in the budget documents.

    A TGF Quebec city-Toronto?

    In 2016, the federal government had also announced$ 3.3 Million over three years to study the project of a train at high frequency between Quebec city and Windsor.

    Two years later, the minister Morneau extends to Transport Canada, the new eight million dollars to support the achievement of a “comprehensive study” on the project, but limited this time to the ” corridor Toronto-Quebec “.

    Still in 2016, Ottawa had also invested$ 7.7 Million to help VIA Rail to carry out technical studies for the renewal of its fleet of rail cars and locomotives between Quebec city and Windsor. The funding for the realization of the project is now in budget 2018. The minister Morneau has not, however, specified no amount, since the tenders will be launched shortly for the acquisition and replacement of 160 cars and 32 locomotives.
