MIRABEL| A farmer from Mirabel, in Laurentides, decides to abandon its production of tomatoes roses in the greenhouse to make way for the cannabis therapeutics, increasing revenues by 100 % according to his estimates.
Les Serres Stephane Bertrand inc., associates in Canopy Growth corporation to create a new company, which bears the name of The Greenhouses Green Cannabis inc.
The transformation will require an investment of $ 15 million to modify existing facilities.
“At the beginning when you approached me I was skeptical and reluctant, but Canopy Growth has made me to visit its facilities in Ontario and I saw that these people were very serious in their work and they are a product of therapeutic quality and this is my expertise in biological product of first quality, as they come to look at us, so I decided to go,” said Stéphane Bertrand.
The change of vocation will allow for the hiring of 30 additional employees. The company believes it can provide 70 % of the cannabis of the province, with this single installation. The greenhouses could produce up to 60,000 pounds of cannabis per year.
The mayor of the municipality sees with a good eye the arrival of this new player in this sector of activity.
“It is necessary that the region be positioned in this new reality. Be it tomatoes, corn or cannabis it is necessary that the companies position themselves and the first to do so will be an advance on the others, ” believes mayor Jean Bouchard.
