The draft law on the payment of pensions to veterans who fought against the USSR and against Germany, was adopted in Latvia in December. But only now it has gained legal force.

Under this law, veterans of World war II will be recognized as those who fought against Nazi Germany, and those who fought against the Soviet Union. As earlier veteran pension can only receive the participants of the battles against Germany and most people thought it was completely unfair.

Exceptions were only the representatives of the nationalised socialist party of Germany, now residing in Latvia, as well as former employees of the KGB.
