THREE-RIVERS – The project to train high frequency (TGF) with stops at Trois-Rivières seems more nearly to be realized. A meeting has been held on this Tuesday, between the people of Via Rail, the minister of Transport of Québec André Fortin and the member for Trois-Rivières.

“The government will give its backing to the project, if the federal government goes ahead,” said Jean-Denis Girard, member for Trois-Rivières.

The passenger train could see the light of day in four years.

“We’re talking about a train that goes around a speed of 100 miles an hour, with one rail dedicated solely to the passenger train, but it is necessary to split the track,” explained the mp.

The project requires an investment of $ 5.2 billion. It does lack the federal funding to move forward.

“It is absolutely necessary that to be announced in 2018,” says Robert Aubin, member of parliament for the NDP.

The Chamber of commerce and industry, one follows with interest the evolution of the project from TGF.

“It is good for the economy of Trois-Rivières. It is believed that people may have wanted to come here,” said Amélie St-Pierre, president of the Chamber of commerce and industry of Trois-Rivières.

The train high frequency would make the journey between the city centre of Trois-Rivières and Montreal in only 50 minutes.
