CAPLAN | A man of the Gaspésie has donated 350 packages of moose meat, deer, and bustard families in need who will be able to cook for the Holidays, thanks to the generosity of several hunters.
Jonathan Bélanger, nicknamed the ” Robin hood of the meat of the woods “, has gathered an impressive quantity of moose meat, deer, bustard, but also pork, beef and chicken.
This is more than double of last year, when he had given 134 packages of meat to families at the Baie-des-Chaleurs.

The 350 packets handed out to the poor of the Gaspé peninsula in 2017.
“In the past year, my freezer was full and I had photographed and placed on Facebook five packages of meat that I wanted to give to a family in the corner in need. Friends hunters have seen it and have decided to embark, ” relates Jonathan Bélanger.
It was at that time the happiness of a fighter of cancer, who had not been able to go hunting this year. During his last stay in the hospital, he wanted to just eat the moose.
“The daughter of the man in question was in Rimouski [about 300 km] and wanted to buy the meat and pick it up. We gave him and one of my friends helped to carry the meat bus. His goal was really to bring pleasure to his father, ” recalls the hunter and the forest technician who lives in Caplan.
850 meals
Therefore, it has recurred this year, but this time, he has collected 350 bags of meat. Hunters have agreed to give five to twelve packages. According to his calculations, this represents 850 meals.
Sunday, the “Robin of the meat of the woods” delivered the gifts personally to the families who need it.
“I admit that I felt like Chantal Lacroix in Give back,” he said with a laugh.
“I surprise myself, and they don’t know me. I’m going to make them happy, they would all receive with open arms “, said Jonathan Bélanger.
Each package can be worth about 10 $ and moose meat cannot be sold in Quebec, which makes it a precious gift.
