The Salvation Army is stealing “several thousand dollars” in the night from Saturday to Sunday, on the eve of Christmas, in his local area of Quebec. A gesture that “lack of class” and that comes at the worst time, denounced the organization.

These are employees of the premises located at 815, boulevard Wilfrid-Hamel, who made the discovery.

“We were in the midst of the campaign of the pots in the shops, and then we came here yesterday (Sunday) and it was realized that the door had been smashed and the safe was missing,” explains the regional Director of public relations and development, division of Quebec, René Frigon.

According to him, the amount stolen is “around$ 5000”. The chest contained all the recipes of the second-hand store for the past three days. Fortunately, the harvests of the campaign of pots, which takes place in November and which was to end Saturday night, was not there and remain intact.

The 500 Christmas baskets were handed out in the last few days as many of the families in the Quebec city region through this campaign. “This is the time of Christmas, it works as a sick, virtually, to come to the assistance of the population (…) and all of a sudden, you realize that someone came in and left with the safe. (…) It doesn’t look great, it lacks class, bluntly,” growls René Frigon, who fears that this demotivates his troops.

    At the worst time

These monetary losses will have a direct impact on the ongoing operations of the Salvation Army, which are normally filled by the second-hand store. However, the organization does not have insurance to cover this kind of losses.

“The traders say that December is two months in one. It is no different from them other. Our store is rolling a lot more in December,” said Mr. Frigon.

“I don’t know where we are going to take the money to pay the rent in January, in February, because it is with the turnover of the store that we can pay these cases. (…) It puts us in the lurch”, laments the director, who stresses that the organization comes to the aid of a wide range of customers, in all areas of the City, and this year-round.

Surveillance cameras have captured the gesture of the individual, whose face was hidden by a balaclava, ” said Mr. Frigon. “It smashes the door and he goes directly to the vault, he takes it and leaves. It does this very quickly, so it is someone who knew the locations”, he believes.

The organization has notified the police of Quebec, which has ensured its collaboration in this folder.

The Salvation Army, a division of Quebec, now counts on the support of the population to compensate for the monetary losses suffered.

This is the second charity to be the victim of a volume In the night of 21 November last year, the Conference St-Sacrement, service point of the Société de Saint-Vincent de Paul de Québec (SSVPQ), was also made to pilfer the contents of his safe, or about $ 600, as well as clothing, food and various objects.
