Environment Canada has maintained its warning of a winter storm for areas of Forestville, Baie-Comeau and Sept-Îles, because a few inches of snow are still expected today.
The precipitation, combined with gusty winds will generate blowing snow. This is why the Commission scolaire du Fer has decided to suspend classes for the day pre-emptively. Child care services remain open. Employees should report to work as scheduled.
Caution to motorists
Although the precipitation in the soil are only of a few centimeters, use caution on the roads. According to Québec 511, the floor was covered in snow and there is a presence of blades of snow on highway 138. The visibility is also reduced in several places due to high winds.
The Société des traversiers du Québec will inform the users of the Traverse Matane-Baie-Comeau-Godbout that the departure of 8am will be in the direction of Baie-Comeau and not from Godbout due to adverse weather conditions.
The storm is expected to hit tip in the gaspé over the course of the next few hours.
