A group of unions and teachers claim the government more resources and better salaries to approach the next provincial budget.

The Federation of trade unions de l’enseignement (FSE-CSQ), together with the trainees in education and the Profs group in motion have launched Sunday the campaign ” take a stand for teachers of Quebec “, which the logo represents an apple grugée up to the heart.

“We said,” enough of the classes are unbalanced, lack of resources, teacher shortages and the lack of valuing of our profession. We love our profession, ( … ), and it is believed that if education is what it is, it is thanks to these teachers who have kept the schools at the end of arm “, said the president of the FSE-CSQ, Josée Scalabrini.

The spokesman called for reinvestments ” significant “, on Tuesday, in the budget that the minister of Finance Carlos Leitao must submit, without, however, encrypt their demands, or to say in what proportion the sums devoted to education should be increased. According to Ms. Scalabrini, the cuts total $ 1 billion over a decade in education.

    Shortage of teachers

The grouping has also denounced the fact that 46% of teachers have a precarious status, that is to say that they do not have tenure, a situation that can last for years, they recalled. Antoine Side, the Campaign of claims and actions inter-university for student and education internship (CHALKS), argued that the working conditions less than desirable teachers explain in good part the shortage of teachers.

“As future teachers, of course, we hear about the job insecurity that is waiting for us at the beginning of the profession, and it certainly worries us,” he said.

Interns in education are calling for the compensation of the final stage of their training during which they must fill to 100% the task of a teacher during 12 to 18 weeks. They propose to give these interns a scholarship from lows of $ 576 per week paid by financial assistance for education.
