    TORONTO | The ontario government announced on Saturday that he had transferred and sold is 22.8 square kilometres of land to Parks Canada towards the creation of the largest urban park in North America, in the Toronto area.

    The national urban park of the Red will, in the long term, one of the largest protected areas in urban areas of the world. Its area will be equal to 23 times the size of Central Park, New York.

    Ontario has clarified by issuing a press release that it immediately transfers the 6.5 square kilometres of land as well as its provincial interest in 15,2 square kilometers managed by the Office for the protection of nature in Toronto. Added to this is a 1.1 square kilometre of land administered by the City of Markham.

    Thus, a-t-on indicated, Parks Canada now manages directly about 80% of 79,1 square kilometers of land that will be used in the creation of the national urban park of the Red. Other transfers expected from the part of cities and neighbouring areas, should be done soon.

    The national urban park of the Red extend on the territory of the cities of Toronto, Markham and Pickering, as well as in a part of the township of Uxbridge, lake Ontario to the Oak Ridges moraine.
