“It was terrifying, because we didn’t speak the language and we could not understand really what was happening,” said Eden Kazoleas to Global News.
Me Frances Tibollo, the lawyer of Kazoleas and Drolet, visited last week in Cambodia to facilitate the release of the two young women. She told Global have experience of working in Cambodia. According to her, the incident is simply a “cultural misunderstanding”.
“What is considered nudity in the West can be considered otherwise in Cambodia, and vice-versa, said Frances Tibollo to Global News. It is necessary to always be well-informed on the laws, standards and practices in the countries that we visit.”
I Tibollo has also said that photos published by the authorities of Cambodia as proof date back several years and show no of its two clients. She did not want to further discuss the details of the case, since three tourists involved in the case are still being held in Cambodia. According to Agence France-Presse, the accused have admitted to having participated in a feast where they were wearing “sexy clothes”, but deny formally have performed acts of a pornographic nature.
