The political formation of the ex-mayor of Montreal, Denis Coderre, has filed a complaint to the surete du Quebec, asking him to investigate a cyber attack on its website.

Joined by TVA News, Gilbert Decoste, the director general of the political party which now bears the name Set Montreal, said that the cyber attacks occurred a few days before the election of November 5.

“The hackers wanted to break into our database system. Our supplier has, however, managed to counter-attack. However, they have gained access to our web site. They have destroyed the data on the contributors, with the aim of disrupting our campaign activities. Donors have, however, not to worry. For the sake of transparency, we sent a letter in order to reassure them”, said Mr. Decoste.

“We can reassure you about the protection of your personal data. As we do not save any credit card number, it is impossible that criminals have been able to obtain it from our web site. In addition, our provider reassures us that no other sensitive information was compromised”, one can read in the letter sent to the donors.
