LOWER SACKVILLE, N.-É. – A young girl of 9 years old and one man 58 years of age perished in a fire that broke out during the night of Friday to Saturday at a residence in Lower Sackville, a suburb of Halifax.

The fire, which started shortly after 2: 30 a.m., swept through a duplex.

Two other people, an 18 year old man and a 46 year old woman, were also in the interior of the building to the arrival of emergency. The woman was rescued by police officers of the RCMP who are made to escape through a window of the second floor.

“Our officers arrived first on the scene, in less than two minutes. They borrowed a ladder on the neighboring property and were able to go out to rescue the woman through a window on the second floor,” explained the corporal Dal Hutchinson to the Chronicle Herald.

The young man, for his part, was transported to the hospital, but the authorities did not fear for his life.

Two dogs were also in the residence. One has perished, while the second was able to be saved.

The authorities do not believe that the fire was of criminal origin, but an investigation was opened to determine the exact cause of the disaster.
