MONTREAL – The mayor of Montréal, Valérie Plante, has reacted with sadness to the death of the father of Gregory Charles, Lennox Charles, who succumbed to injuries. He had been snatched up by a tractor for snow removal Tuesday evening in Montreal.

“It is a tragedy of great sadness, she said. All my thoughts are obviously with the family and friends of Mr. Charles. We look forward to the report of the police that he give us guidance to better understand what happened.”

The mayor Plant believes that it is necessary to further secure the equipment fleet involved in subcontracting.

“We, the City and the companies of removal of snow, what is it that we can do to improve the safety of citizens during the snow removal operations”, stressed the mayor of Montreal.

Valerie Plant wishes to enter into discussions with the federal government to examine the possibility of providing the trucking industry who work in subcontracting of side bars on vehicles that are intended to prevent tragedies of the kind.

“We have always been a strong advocate of the importance of providing trucks to bars on the side, she said. This is the case for the fleet of the City of Montreal. This is a good news. It remains that we are also working with sub-contractors and their material is not necessarily equipped with bars on the side. Here, we will make our representations to Quebec to help us get the message across, for it to become a requirement because every life is precious. It is necessary to put everything in place to prevent this type of accident from happening again.”
