VANCOUVER – A teenager of 16 years died from drowning on Friday afternoon, swept away by the current of the falls of Twin Falls, in the canyon park Lynn in north Vancouver.
According to the royal Canadian mounted police (RCMP), the incident occurred at about 16 h, while the teen was swimming with friends in Twin Falls.
A native of Pennsylvania, and visiting family, the teenager has been “swept away by the current and drawn under the water,” said officer Brett Cunningham of the RCMP.
It is by hearing family members and friends to call for help passers-by came to the rescue of the young man in the out of the water.
Emergency crews then carried out a rescue with a string of 18 metres to get it out of the secluded area of the park where it was located. He later died at the hospital.
Agent Brett Cunningham has called the accident “tragic” and stressed that the RCMP continued to work with the parks and districts as well as with the rescue teams “to prevent such incidents in the future”.
It deplores, however, that despite the presence of fences and signs warning intended to deter the bathing, in those areas where the water is too rough, many people still continue to swim.
In march 2016, a 17-year-old had also lost his life in the canyon Lynn.
