QUEBEC | The leader of the Parti québécois, Jean-François Lisée, invites Philippe Couillard to “tell the truth” and to designate the Spanish State as responsible for the violence in Catalonia.
“I hope that the prime minister is going to accept to tell the truth about it, because if the democracies do not say anything, it means that at the bottom of 800 wounded, pass the sponge, if you fly out of the polls, pass the sponge,” said Mr. Lisée, during a press briefing on Wednesday morning.
“Don’t talk, when democracy is being trampled brutally, in a democratic State, it is sending the signal to all authoritarian in the world that we no longer have a moral compass,” said Mr. Lisée.
More than 800 voters and protesters have been injured as a result of muscular intervention of the Spanish police, on Sunday, in the context of the referendum on the independence of Catalonia.
The Spanish authorities have also seized ballot boxes in order to interfere with the normal conduct of the democratic exercise, which they considered illegal.
