Violent fire in the Abitibi region: the authorities fear the worst

A violent fire completely destroyed Monday morning in a single-family residence to Taschereau in the Abitibi region. The authorities fear that bodies will be found in the rubble.

“Various elements lead us to think that people were inside at the time of the fire,” said the sergente Marie-Josée Ouellet, a spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec.

Unfortunately, none of the occupants had evacuated the residence in flames when the first firefighters arrived on the scene of the municipality located north of Rouyn-Noranda.

The flames have taken birth to 5 p.m. in the house located on the path of Aiguebelle.

The cause of the disaster was the subject of an investigation.

Around noon, seven hours after the start of the blaze, firefighters were still on scene to extinguish the remains of the fire.

The residence was destroyed by fire and is considered a total loss.

Research had to take place during the afternoon to try to locate any bodies in the rubble.
