Frankfurt | The brand Volkswagen on Friday announced an investment of$ 2.7 billion for launch by 2019, the Golf 8, a new version of its emblematic model sold in the tens of millions of copies.
“The launch of the next-generation model the Golf is the most strategic for the brand next to the family ID,” said Ralf Brandstätter, head of purchasing for the Volkswagen brand, in a press release. ID refers to the future family cars all-electric and the launch is planned from 2020.
According to Volkswagen, 34 million drivers have bought a Golf since the introduction of the first model in 1974. The Golf 7 is currently selling for in 108 countries, says the manufacturer.
The next Golf in all its versions will be assembled in the historical factory of Wolfsburg (west), the largest complex automotive of Europe, where is also the headquarters of the automotive group of the twelve brands.
