After a long cold snap and heavy snowfalls in recent weeks, it is now a warm spell that is predicted for a good part of Quebec, Thursday, and Friday. This transition temperature will result in an episode of freezing rain to begin as soon as Wednesday evening in the Montreal area.
“A warm front advancing on Quebec, will provide the freezing rain on the south-west [Wednesday] evening. The freezing rain will win the areas to the north of the Old city this night, then the North Shore on Thursday. In general, the quantities of ice will be less than 5 millimeters. However, the roads and sidewalks may be particularly slippery, ” said Environment Canada in a weather warning issued late afternoon on Wednesday.
Virtually all of Quebec was concerned by this warning, from the Ottawa river to the North Shore, passing by the regions of Montréal, Québec, Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, Beauce and Bas-Saint-Laurent.
This episode of freezing rain will be followed by rain Thursday and Friday, a little everywhere in Quebec, while the mercury will remain above the freezing point. Environment Canada predicts temperatures between 7 and 9 degrees Celsius during these two days in Montreal and Quebec city.
The cold is expected to return in strength during the night from Friday to Saturday, while a maximum of -7 and -6 degrees Celsius are expected in Montréal and Québec. Snow is also expected in the course of this day.
