The City of Rigaud implores its citizens to reduce their water consumption so that the reserve could be missing due to a broken water main that will not be resolved for several days.

“If the citizens do not reduce drastically their consumption of water, the City may be sufficient for less than 24 h and will have to cut service in some areas”, one can read in a notice sent on Saturday to residents.

The situation for the approximately 5000 addresses in Rigaud, regardless of whether it’s a commerce, a residence or an institutional building.

    Equipment breakdown

The problem is due to a breakdown of equipment underground that occurred Saturday in a well main power, explained the director of the office of communications and relations with the community of Rigaud, Marie-Andrée Gagnon.

“It is a matter of pressure [of water], drinking water quality is not affected,” added Ms. Gagnon.

She pointed out that the notice issued for citizens aims to encourage them to decrease their water consumption drastically, “because if it continues, we will be forced to cut the water.”

“We don’t want to deplete our reserves, we need to store water for emergency situations, including fires [that could arise],” said Ms. Gagnon.

It will take a few days to repair the damage. “There will be delays because we have to have recourse to experts and to specific parts, and it can’t be done in the immediate future.”
