BÉCANCOUR | adaptation work of the former hotel Mont-Bénilde in Bécancour, in Centre-du-Québec, are launched to greet the students and staff of the school in The Yard of Saint-Sylvère, which was completely destroyed by fire last week.
The workers do double duty to ensure that everything is functional on 5 September.
“The speed at which it’s going, we’ll be ready. There is a big team. There are painters, eight or ten, who are going to go. It was a big team,” assured Rene Poliquin, in charge of the maintenance service of the Commission scolaire de la Riveraine.
If no space had been available in this building located in the sector St-Angèle-de-Laval, at 38 km from Saint-Sylvère, the school leadership would have had to turn to the option of trailers. It was not possible to consider separating the 42 students, who suffer from functionality issues.
“We wanted to keep the entire team of The Apiary as a whole because there are 25 staff members who work with students who have special needs, so for us, it is important not to divide the team,” said Johanne Croteau, director of the Commission scolaire de la Riveraine.
The school will be relocated to the Mont-Bénilde for a period of at least one year. The minister of Education, Sébastien Proulx, who visited the scene of the disaster, was assured that it will be rebuilt. It is unknown, however inside of what is the time limit.
